"Respighi and Malipiero: their works nowadays are rarely recorded or performed, but they were nevertheless the originators of an important musical revival which took place in Italy in the early twentieth century. Through a commitment to the great masters of the Renaissance and Baroque periods and the study of Gregorian chant, each succeeded in his own way in giving new impetus to the art of music and inspiring future generations.
In a rare portrait of Italian music at the beginning of the twentieth century, Norberto Respighi brings together here the most emblematic piano works of these two composers, with Malipiero’s Poemetti Lunari and Poemi Asolani, and Respighi’s Notturno and Valse caressante. "


"Respighi, Malipiero : peu enregistrés, peu joués, ces deux compositeurs sont néanmoins à l’origine du passionnant renouveau musical que connaît l’Italie au début du XXe siècle. Grâce à la redécouverte des maîtres de la Renaissance et du baroque, à l’étude du chant grégorien, ils ont su donner une impulsion artistique neuve et inspirer les générations futures, chacun avec leurs langages et univers propres, singuliers et poétiques.
Norberto Respighi réunit ici leurs œuvres pour piano : les fascinants Poemetti Lunari et très cinématographiques Poemi Asolani de Malipiero (bande-son du film éponyme sur le compositeur lui-même) croisent ainsi la Valse caressante et le Notturno de Respighi, dans un rare portrait intimiste de la musique italienne du début du siècle. "
